IDboxRT Technology Guarantees Repsol´s Operational Excellence

REPSOL has led an operational excellence and corporate responsibility project in it´s refineries in Spain.  This project is a paradigm of Operational Intelligence (OI), whose objective is to  carry out a dynamic analysis of its business, in real time, which increases the visibility and understanding of the company’s operations.

This project has been implanted in all refineries that are participating in the SICLOS project and the initial results look very promising, meeting the project’s initial expectations.  The most notable feature of SICLOS is that it is providing the company with better technical and economic results.

The main objective of this project is to reach operational excellence and achieve the best possible results for the refineries.  This is done by analysing the economic impact of the main operational indicators, that present, in real time, all the options for the better running of each unit, without neglecting safety, it´s main priority.

In this way, REPSOL is able to monitor all the refineries it has, through their control centers and the processes that they are carrying out in real time.

SICLOS affords the company control of the economic impact of operations in real time, using simple and intuitive indicators that help them make decisions to improve quality, operational efficiency and, consequently, obtain better economic results.

IDboxRT provides a complete vision of the business in real time

For this project, REPSOL has entrusted CIC for its IDboxRt technology.  It allows the petro-chemical giant to, among other things, integrate all available sources of information, making data processing efficient and offer integrated dashboards that facilitate analyses.  It also enables them to do an economic follow up and helps them make operational decisions in its day to day operations, with the final goal of making continuous improvement feasible.

Operators in the control rooms, have all the information they need at their fingertips; displayed on screens on a video wall, which allows them to follow events in real time, quickly, visually, see if quality and efficiency is being optimized.  For this reason, several environmental and economic indicators have been introduced into the system.

One of the main advantages of IDboxRT is that it allows for these switchboard panels to be accessed from anywhere or from any device, permitting the user to modify or expand them easily, which provides greater autonomy and adaptability.

Some of the main operational parameters can be economically quantified and have had immediate economic impact on the refineries.  Users can access information directly and see, in a short period of time, the economic impact of their operational decisions that are being taken in the refineries.

Thanks to this project, REPSOL has been able to integrate all their operational and economic information, from all their refining plants, in a sole system and can analyse comparatively the economic evolution of their different processes over time.

In conclusion, the implantation of SICLOS through IDboxRT has let REPSOL take a great leap forward in their optimization of sustainable operations, which is compatible with a lower environmental impact thereby saving the company millions of Euros.
