Prototype of renewable energy distribution management and simulation tool

PAUL aimed to develop a tool for managing and simulating the operation of the distribution network, which took into account the behavioral changes related to the provision of energy from the renewable field.

A modular system was proposed, with the capacity to scale and provide relevant information from the heterogeneous sources available (measurement, meteorology, historical) and enable the creation of training scenarios to simulate grid behaviors in practical circumstances that derive from the supply from renewable energies.

CIC role

CIC was the project coordinator and was responsible for collecting the functional requirements, and the design, development and validation of the prototype, focusing on data processing, and providing its expertise both in the field of management systems and systems integration.

The work consisted of the analysis, development and implementation of an information system that is capable of:

  • Collect all variables related to the state of the network.
  • Consolidate them into a centralized database.
  • Define a model of the current network that can be simulated based on real behavior patterns.
  • Enable to show valuable information to help in the real-time decision making of operators.

Partners

The PAUL consortium was composed of 3 partners, CIC, acting as coordinator, E.ON DISTRIBUCIÓN and THUNDER SIMULACIÓN.

Funding

This project has received funding from SODERCAN (Cantabria Government), R&D on renewable energies program, call 2010.
