that was directed at the <strong>utilities sector.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aurelio Juarez, <em>Sales Manager at CIC<\/em>, inaugurated the session giving way to Ignacio Pe\u00f1a, <em>Utilities Project Manager,<\/em> and Tom\u00e1s Sa\u00f1udo, <em>GIS Project Manager<\/em>, who were in charge of the webinar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The presentation focused, primarily, on<strong> 9 success stories,<\/strong> where it was shown that GIS Technology was the perfect ally for the utilities sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is GIS?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cic.es\/en\/software-development-and-system-integration\/gis-geographic-information-system\/\">GIS, as its acronym would indicate<\/a>,&nbsp; is a <em>Geographic Information System, <\/em>designed to <strong>gather, to store, to manage and analyse<\/strong> different types of <strong>data gathered,<\/strong> and <strong>present it geographically <\/strong>referenced in order to help users in the decision making process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>GIS in the Utilities Sector<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cic.es\/en\/energy-and-utilities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">utilities sector<\/a>, GIS is a very important tool for the <strong>implementation of projects because it allows you to:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Georeference<\/em> assets<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Implement organizational and maintenance <em>Workflows <\/em>that meet geographical requirements<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Develop <em>mobility activities <\/em>and <em>planning<\/em> of teams and routes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Carry out <em>environmental impact studies<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Remote control <\/em>processes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Business Intelligence <\/em>processes, associated with georeferencing and business data<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity is-style-dots\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-black-color has-text-color\"><strong>Are you familiar with the challenges and opportunities the utilities sector is facing?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-white-color has-text-color has-background no-border-radius wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cic.es\/transformacion-digital-en-las-utilities\/\" style=\"background-color:#0085ca\">Find out<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity is-style-dots\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Benefits<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The most important benefits GIS provides the Utilities Sector:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Increased efficiency<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Simplifies production processes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Optimizes resources<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increased productivity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cost savings<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Effective response<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>More accurate decision making<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promotes competitiveness<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Location management<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Success Stories.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After a short introduction of GIS, Ignacio and Tom\u00e1s presented 9<strong> success stories. <\/strong>A small selection of the most relevant projects was chosen, in which CIC had worked with different technologies: <em>Esri, Google Maps or OpenLayer.&nbsp; <\/em>As a side note, Esri is the technology that 90% of our GIS projects are based upon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below you will find a brief summary of the cases that were dealt with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Regulatory Information Management System<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A system designed to <strong>load, analyse, validate and create CNMC report files, <\/strong>&nbsp;as well as <strong>carry out calculations and monetize electricity distribution projections<\/strong>. This includes a <strong>visual representation module<\/strong> whose files are layered that contain georeferenced information, developed with OpenLayers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Network Management System<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A <strong>low, medium and high voltage inventory management system<\/strong> that is a sort of viewfinder, based on Google Maps, the alphanumeric management&nbsp; characteristics of each of its elements and the creation of operational and inventory reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Felling and pruning management system&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Solutions developed on the ArcGIS (Esri) platform for the <strong>generation, planning, execution and follow up<\/strong> of felling and pruning maintenance work, that are in actuality implanted in numerous production environments of the electric sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At this point we will introduce <strong>two implemented management models.<\/strong>&nbsp; Firstly, based<strong> on AT\/MT lines <\/strong>or concrete areas that are traced on a map, based on periodic growth of vegetation and the last time it has been cleared, usually one year.&nbsp; Where the company&#8217;s assets are based on openings on AT, MT,BT, transformer centers, substations, support and management of any defects in their assets. &nbsp; The <strong>second model, designed jointly with Union Fenosa Distribuci\u00f3n (UFD) of the Naturgy Group<\/strong>, one of Spain&#8217;s largest utilities, was developed according to the clients needs. The <strong>maintenance plan<\/strong>, based on a yearly plan and divided geographically into separate areas depending on the type of network or business.&nbsp; A video was shown detailing the felling and pruning model which was implemented by CIC together with UFD<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>GIS Increment Management in the Network\u00b4s Operational Model<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A corporate GIS model was shown through a <strong>Geometric Network,<\/strong> where all the AT\/MT <strong>assets<\/strong> <strong>guarantee connectivity <\/strong>meeting the topological rules established by the network\u00b4s operational system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1100\" height=\"614\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cic.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Webinar-CIC-C\u00f3mo-optimizar-la-Gesti\u00f3n-de-Activos-en-las-Utilities-aplicando-Herramientas-GIS.-Enfoque-tecnico.-Workflow-del-proceso-1100x614.png\" alt=\"Webinar CIC - C\u00f3mo optimizar la Gesti\u00f3n de Activos en las Utilities aplicando Herramientas GIS. A recent model , two years old, adds a <strong>standard service model for the maintenance of electric, water, gas and telecom networks<\/strong>, that eases and allows, by its structure and modelling, network operational systems integration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Access to elements of the utility network can be carried out, through web applications or through mobile apps guaranteeing success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CIC has implemented pilot projects in data loading and data analysis from different data distributors adapted to the Utility network model, <\/strong>one of the most complete points in the implementation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>BIM Models<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Modeling buildings from their structure, thereby attaining a <strong>three dimensional view <\/strong>of the building, from the construction geometry, georeferenced information, other attributes, such as adjacent structures, with the purpose of localizing assets, interior elements or just wanting an <strong>exact three dimensional model of the structure.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Three case studies were set forth, an <strong>oil refinery,<\/strong> an <strong>electricity substation<\/strong> and, lastly, <strong>smart buildings management.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Renewable Energy Parks Management<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The project encompasses <strong>450 Renewable Energy Parks Worldwide.<\/strong>&nbsp; The idea is to <strong>manage projects in each of its phases<\/strong>: from blueprints, to construction and production.&nbsp; <em>The main objective that the client wanted to emphasize was a normalization of a data model to manage its assets in each of the parks taking into account the different technologies and development phases.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>This project was awarded a prize by the World Users Conference of ArcGIS (Esri) in 2016 to the electric company that had implanted it.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Mobility Solutions<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cic.es\/en\/software-development-and-system-integration\/enterprise-mobility-solutions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Field works<\/strong> to be performed<\/a> management, <strong>traceability <\/strong>of the works, <strong>works registry<\/strong>, <strong>location<\/strong> and <strong>navigation,<\/strong><em> <\/em><strong>integration<\/strong> with the rest of the GIS Web components and corporate systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The cases presented were directed to maintenance work assets and infrastructures,&nbsp;
